You've just ended another term.
What a challenge - it's been fun, rewarding - but draining. Oh so draining.
You've been running on empty for weeks.
School holidays come.
"Thank goodness," you say as you stumble over the finish line.
You're beyond exhausted...
Relieved that the term is over.
It's the holidays.
You spend time rejuvenating, ignoring all the school work you brought home to do.
You spend some time ignoring all the home projects you've put off during term time.
You spend some time berating yourself for not getting the school work or home projects done.
Slowly you start to gather enough energy to make plans for 'doing it differently' next term.
And then, before you know it, it's time to go back.
And the resolutions begin.
"This term it's gonna be different", you say to yourself confidently.
You make plans – this term, this month, this week is going to be different.
You're going to get on top of that endless to-do list for once and for all.
You're going to eat well, you're going to exercise, you're going to... you're going to...
But then the term starts, and a week into it, the holidays are long forgotten.
And Sunday after Sunday, Monday looms.
You know the weekend is coming to an end and tension starts to rise.
Each week the stress and overwhelm accumulate.
Each week you are slipping closer and closer to the burnout bunker.
As a fellow teacher of 25 years, I've been there.
I would start each term full of hope and inspiration,
committed to work-life balance and my own well-being.
This would be the term, the month, the week that I would finally do it differently,
only to have those goals fall away all too soon and to watch my mental and emotional health falter.
I get it. I’ve been beat up and broken, exhausted and depressed,
yet still trying to continually give to those around me,
to slog my way through the to-do list,
the endless meetings that should have been an email.
You begin to feel overwhelmed by day-to-day activities.
Another meeting, another piece of paperwork, another demand on you and your time and your emotional bucket becomes emptier and emptier...
You start to resent people and feel disconnected from others.
Your patience is wearing thin, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to see the blue sky for all the grey clouds of planning, the little things are becoming bigger and bigger
You find yourself getting easily irritated with people.
You're feeling exhausted, empty and unable to keep up with the pressures and demands of your day to day life.

• you are determined to avoid being on-the-edge of, or tumbling head-over-heels with burnout
• stress is ruining your life with headaches, stomach aches, or a short-temper
• the term inner-peace sounds like an unobtainable goal
•you are sick and tired of being sick and tired

• you are ready for real change and are willing to learn some new tools to get you there
• you believe, somewhere inside you, that you have the power to create change in your life
• you want someone to save you or “fix it” for you
• you are looking to just download complete planner or e-book full of solutions and then file it in some never to be seen again folder
• you aren’t able to respect boundaries
• you don’t want to put in any effort to create change
• you want to remain stuck in overwhelm
• you enjoy complaining
